Julian Opie

Klare Konturen. Flächige Farben. Der Stil von Julian Opie, der zu den bedeutendsten britischen Gegenwartskünstlern gehört, ist unverkennbar. Seine Werke umfassen Bilder, aber auch Skulpturen, LED-Panels, Videos und Installationen.

Opies Experimentierfreudigkeit mit verschiedenen Techniken und Medien sowie sein kunsthistorisches Wissen fließen in seine Arbeiten ein. Klassische Gattungen der gegenständlichen Malerei wie Porträts, Stillleben und Landschaften sind in seinem Werk zu finden, aber immer mit einem eindeutigen Bezug zur Gegenwart. Er findet Inspiration für seine Werke in so unterschiedlichen Genre wie das des japanischen Holzschnitts des 18. Jahrhunderts oder des neuzeitlichen Mangas.

Seine Werke befinden sich weltweit in wichtigen Sammlungen wie u.a. der Tate Modern, London, dem Museum of Modern Art, New York, dem Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, und dem Kunsthaus Zürich.
