Shapes and patterns and the breaking up of these principles are the focus of the works of conceptual artist and painter Albrecht Wild. His "shaped canvases" play with basic shapes such as circles, which, taken apart and reassembled, produce forms that capture and guide the gaze - only to lead it into nothingness. This irritating and hypnotic effect occurs in both his minimalist and figurative works.

Wild's works contain references to cultural, brand and consumer history, as well as some classics of art history that have found their way printed onto coasters. Produced to protect tabletops from moisture, Wild has taken these everyday products to an artistic level. He refers to coasters as his pigments, and just as a painter mixes paints, he uses his technique of cutting and rearranging to create this ongoing series of works. The fragmentation and repetition of pictorial information results in a kaleidoscope-like image for viewers to puzzle over.
Since 1988, he has exhibited regularly internationally and is represented in renowned collections, such as the Graphic Collection of the Staedel Museum and the Collection of Contemporary Art of the Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt. Albrecht Wild studied at the Städelschule with Thomas Bayrle. He is a painter and conceptual artist. He lives and works in Frankfurt am Main.
