Dorothee Wenz

Coloring, layering, cutting, building, sanding, polishing - this is how Dorothee Wenz describes the production of her ceramic objects. All the steps - from coloring the clay with ceramic pigments to sanding - are done by hand. The artist always produces her vessels in series, which are similar in terms of color or pattern. Yet they are all different. Slim and tall, bulbous or with a waist, with more or less inclination - each piece is individual and unique. By combining different colored clay masses, her works make a painterly impression. Dorothee Wenz (*1968 in Marburg) studied at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and has been working as a freelance artist since 1995. Numerous prizes, such as the State Prize for Arts and Crafts Rhineland-Palatinate 2022, underline her work. Her works are represented in important collections (e.g. in the Grassi Museum Leipzig) and international exhibitions and trade fairs.

Collections: Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern; Bernhardstiftung, Nierstein; Grassimuseum, Leipzig; Keramiksammlung Offenburg; Keramion, Frechen; Hetjens-Museum, Düsseldorf
